More About Miss Renee Simone

Miss Renee Simone was described as "a remarkable voice" in Glam Adelaide, "captivating in manner, voice and message" in Rip It Up magazine, "an intoxicating performer" in The Barefoot Review, and by Angus Stone as having "a voice like tiramisu topped with smooth chocolate sauce."

Born in the UK of Jamaican descent, her mother filled her childhood with jazz and soul music. Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Randy Crawford sang her lullabies, forming in her the soul music diva that exudes prominently in her performances. Later, she was influenced by contemporary songstresses like Neneh Cherry, Janet Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, India Arie, Massive Attack and Morcheeba.

As a singer and child therapist, Miss Renee Simone has journeyed the world over, through New Zealand, Europe and Africa and lastly Australia. She settled in Byron Bay and started out as a youth worker - however, her dedication to her work was unable to quell her overwhelming passion for music. She proceeded to establishing the Blackbirds band, which became successful as semi-finalists on Australia's Got Talent and was invited to perform at music festivals throughout the country including Bluesfest, the Mullum Music Festival, Reggaefest, Splendour in the Grass and the Bellingen Global Carnival. The band also worked with Eric Bibb on his national tour in Australia, which prompted the Grammy-nominated artist to describe Miss Renee Simone as "reminiscent of an early Sade". In early 2013, Miss Renee Simone began as a solo performer with a series of performances at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. She was also invited to make a recording together with some Australian icons that included Bernard Fanning, Angus Stone and Xavier Rudd.

Miss Renee Simone's debut solo album "ROAR" was released on 14 October 2013, establishing her in Australia as a unique singer. Fanning has described her performance, saying "I heard 'ROAR' and was really impressed by the range and quality of the writing, singing and playing. Miss Renee is able to straddle jazzy soul, folk, pop and reggae and make all of the styles her own. A great singer with a very unique style. If honey had a sound it would be the voice of Miss Renee Simone". ROAR received nominations for album of the week on ABC Radio National, Sydney's Eastside radio and 2 BOB Radio.

And to top it all, this versatile soul diva can also DJ for your occasion, with original vinyl and turntables for a fun dance time.
